Working for our community

We aim to reduce the barriers to education, training, volunteering and employment, by providing asset-based community development activities and interventions. However, our projects aren't just about the delivery of service. We focus on high-impact, transformative solutions that improve the wellbeing, resilience and outcomes of the local community.

We work with partner organisations and our community to co-design services that engage, empower and enable individuals and families to live their lives well.

We believe that giving communities a voice, offering the support and tools to help them engage in the design, delivery of positive provisions helps to create a more independent community and more positive future for all those involved.

Working for our environment

Our work also tackles waste by stopping good-quality clothing from ending up in landfill. In Greater Manchester (which includes Oldham), around 5.9 % of household residual waste is made up of textiles (linen, clothing, shoes) — that’s over 11.6 kg per household per year in Oldham alone.  Rather than letting useful garments decompose and pollute, we collect, sort, and redistribute them to people in crisis.

Each item we reuse and repurpose not only supports someone in immediate need but also reduces environmental harm — less landfill, fewer greenhouse gases, and reduced demand for new production. By giving clothes a second life, we meet urgent human need and care for our planet — creating impact that is both immediate and lasting.

Working to provide meaningful opportunities

We are also proud to create meaningful volunteering opportunities across Oldham. From sorting donations to supporting service users directly, volunteers gain new skills, build confidence, and connect with their community. But it’s more than just lending a hand – it’s about skill sharing and personal growth. People bring their own talents, whether that’s organisation, communication, or lived experience, and in turn learn practical skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and customer service.

This exchange of skills makes volunteering with REEEL RACK a two-way experience: those who give their time also gain knowledge, confidence, and opportunities for the future. For some, it can be a stepping stone back into employment; for others, a way to share wisdom and support the next generation. This shared effort strengthens local bonds and shows that positive change is possible when people come together.
